Hello everyone! Its been a long time! I unfortunately ended up being diagnosed with COVID 19 during the month of August. No worries! I am doing a lot better now and have beat the virus!
During my time of healing…. I read a whopping 18 books (technically 19 but I didn’t start one in August. I am not going to cover all of them in my post today since, that would be a novel in itself but I have included my Goodreads link here so you can keep up with my reading! Feel free to add me! I would love to see what you are reading too.
I want to touch on some of my favorites from the month today. Lets dive into them shall we 🙂
I’ll Be the One by Lyla lee
This book was one I had my eyes on since its release in June. This follows the main character Skye Shin who is a plus sized Bisexual girl who wants to become a KPop star. She has an incredible voice and dancing skills but since she is plus sized she is constantly ridiculed for not “looking the part” and her persevering despite the constant backlash. This book resonated with me so much, seeing a plus size bisexual girl defying the odds and not letting others get in the way? Its inspirational and this book was over all extremely fun! This is a quick read and one I would recommend. I gave this book 4.5/5 stars. I will most likely reread this book again
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
This book? Took me completely by surprise. I have been seeing this all over booktube, goodreads, and facebook and it did NOT disappoint. This book follows Stella Lane as she tries to learn how to show affection while dealing with Asperger’s. To work through this challenge she decides to hire an escort named Micheal Phan. She hope he can teach her to be more natural and learn to love and enjoy affection and sex and lets just say… It works. This book is A LOT MORE SPICY that I realized it would be. It was so good even though it has one of my least favorite tropes ( I won’t say so that I don’t spoil it). If you have been wondering if you should read this book? You should. I gave it 5 stars. It was so well done.
The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Remember when I started this book in May? Me too. This was the longest book I have read in my life being a whopping 803 (ish) pages and wow. Just WOW. This was my first introduction into high fantasy and I already feel like I peaked (LOL). I kept putting this book off not because I wasn’t enjoying it, but because I didn’t want it to end. Though I wish the ending conflict was longer, never the less, I enjoyed it. I gave this book 5 stars. I loved every minute of it. I wish I could describe to you the contents of this book, but its so hard to summarize. Don’t be intimidated by the size, the journey is worth it!
Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz
While sick, I decided to give in and watch Hamilton and…. Lets just say I am obsessed, so much that I picked up this read. Let me preface this by saying if you have NO knowledge of Alex and Eliza’s story, I promise you, you will not enjoy this book very much which is unfortunate BUT if you were like me, wanting more of their story you will eat this book right up. This gives more personality to my favorite characters, from Hamilton the Schuyler sisters while also providing more to Alex and Eliza’s beginning to their relationship. Simply put, its like reading a good fan fiction of Hamilton. I know that’s probably not the authors intention, BUT that why I loved it. I gave it 4 stars. I read it in one sitting and it was such a treat!
The last book I want to touch on is one that truly took me by surprise
The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons
After reading The Priory of the Orange Tree, I wanted more fantasy and I picked up this gem. One thing I realized on my second high fantasy book, they are hard for me to summarize, so here is the link to the goodreads profile so you can get a better idea :). This book was SO good. I gave it 4.5/5 stars. There is a LOT that is constantly being unpacked and I felt myself being shocked by the constant plot twists being thrown in. You really have to pay attention to every little detail. One of my favorite things about this book is the main character Kihrin & Talon’s humor. Its subtle at times but extremely effective. The character growth for Kihrin is also so enjoyable to read. UGH I don’t have enough words to describe my love for this book. As soon as this book was over I ordered the second book in the series and I am working though it. If you are into fantasy, please check this book out!
That’s all for this short update! I will have my September TBR up within the week so look forward to it!
