Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well!
After my Twilight binge, I decided to pick up something completely different. I have been working on a thriller myself but I wanted to do some research on what makes them good, what gets readers in, so I decided to check out the much raved about novel
The Silent Paitent by Alex Michaelides
The synopsis is the following: “Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.”
So when I read this I was intrigued! I wanted to know why she shot her own husband but also WHY she won’t speak. There has to be more to her right? I immediately ordered this book and dove right into it.
This review isn’t really a spoiler filled one. I want to keep this one very minimal with my thoughts incase any of you are interested in this.
Something that initially shocked me was that most of the book was not in the perspective of Alicia, but rather in her new pyschotherapist Theo Faber but at times we do get her perspective which is in the form of her diary.
This book… was quite a disappointment. Were there twists and turns and drama? Yes there was, but I think, me being a true crime enthusiast I wasn’t surprised by most twists and If I was? It didn’t seems to throw me for a loop like I was hoping. I wanted to feel what Alicia was feeling and I think that because of a lot of the story was in Theo’s perspective I felt a bit robbed from it.
In the end the truth was all revealed but it was… lacking depth/urgency to me. I think this book had some serious potential but it fell a bit short in the thrilling aspect of it.
Overall I gave this book a solid 2.5/5 stars. I read it all in one sitting. I would say, if you are thinking of picking up this book, maybe try the audiobook? Most people that enjoyed itseemed to be listening to it compared to reading it, that I know of. It may change your experience! I’d love to know your thoughts on this book if you have read it, maybe I am missing something.
Now I will dive back into my Twilight spree and finish New Moon, that post will be up on Wednesday!
Until next time!
